Board

Dr. Mukhammadi Babaev - Chairperson of the Board, is a professional researcher, manager and banker with an extensive professional experience in the areas of macroeconomic and trade liberalization policy, an international financing, etc. He is currently working as a Director of the International Financial Relations Department at OSJC "Agroinvestbank", is the Chairman of the Board of the Tajik Branch of the Open Society Institute-Assistance Foundation, and a Senior Lecturer at International Economic Relations Department of Tajik National University. Dr. Babaev holds a BA in Finance and Credit (2001), MA in International Economic Relations (2003) from the Tajik National University as well as a Law degree (2003) from the Russian Slavic Tajik University. In addition, he holds a Master of Science Degree in Development Economics from the University of Manchester (United Kingdom, 2004) and a Degree of Candidate of Economic Sciences (VAK of the Russian Federation – 2007). Dr Babaev was a visiting scholar at the Young Leaders Program of the John's Hopkins University (Washington D.C., USA – 2010). He has attended various professional training courses on strategic management, corporate governance in the banking sector, art of trade negotiations, remittances and its measuring methodology. He has conducted researches on macroeconomic forecasting, growth and development perspectives of Tajikistan, the business environment in Tajikistan, and cooperation of Tajikistan with EVRAZES. He is also an author of numerous publications including the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Country Report on Tajikistan on Remittances and Financial Sector, a textbook, and several articles. Research areas: problems of the international economics, economic development and external financing of economic growth of the countries with transitional economies.

Izzatmand Salomov –Member of the Board, in 1984 graduated Eastern Languages Faculty of the Tajik State National University (at present Tajik National University) as an Interpreter of Arabic Language. Shortly after his graduation Izzatmand found himself in his 5 years service trips in Arab Countries. Since 1988 Izzatmand began his journalistic activities in the State Committee on Television and Broadcasting. From 1997 to present Izzatmand is working at the Internews Network Representative office. From 2007 he serves as a Director of the Branch office of Internews in Tajikistan. He is a specialist in the field of Mass Media; certified trainer in the mentioned field (conducts seminars and presentations for the telejournalists from the Independent Telestations). He is an author/director of several documentary films, as an interpreter/translator of (into Tajik language) more than ten books on the issue of Mass Media.

Abdurahim Muhidov - Member of the Board, in 1982 graduated from the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Tajik Pedagogical Institute as a teacher of English language; worked at travel and tourism company Intourist; in 1983-1985 worked as an interpreter at construction of a steel plant in Nigeria. Upon return from Nigeria continued work at Intourist, and was gradually promoted to head of department of development. In 1993 began work in the country office of USAID/Central Asia in Tajikistan, until 1998. From 1998 until 2000 worked at independent information agency Asia-Plus as deputy director. From 2000 until 2007 worked at USAID/Tajikistan as Project Management Specialist, supervizing and managing projects in the sphere of local governance, independent media, conflict prevention and mitigation, rule of law, etc. Since 2007 - Coordinator, UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction Central Asia and Caucasus.

Parviz Mullojanov – Member of the Board, Executive Director of NGO "Public Committee on Development Processes in Tajikistan" (till 2008 "Public Committee on Democratic Processes"),coordinator of one of the projects of "International Alert" in Tajikistan, political scientist, orientalist. Former member of inter-Tajik dialogue (1997 - 2004), one of the members of organizational committee of inter – Tajik dialogue, member of expert group of EUCAM (2009-2010), was working in many IOs such as Human Rights Watch/Helsinki, UNHCR, ADB,UNDP, GTZ. Has many publications in English language and local publications in the field of political science, conflictology and Islamic science.

Sobir Kurbanov - Member of the Board, economist, graduated in Dushanbe in 1994. Attended different scientific and research courses in US, Switzerland and Austria. Currently is undergoing distant course in Great Britain on "Economic policy and management". He started his professional experience in 1995. During this period has been working in banking system, in private sector, was teaching economics and finance, and also was working in the Ministry of Finance. Since 2001 was working in different IOs as an economist: SDC, IMF -including current position (since 2007) – as regional advisor on economy in CA, DFID - UK. He is an author of numerous publications on economical themes in both local Mass media and in specific academic publications.

Ravshan Sobirzoda –member of the Board, is an Economic Advisor at the Department of State, U.S. Embassy in Tajikistan, a Senior Lecturer at the Finance and Economics Faculty of the Tajik National University, and a Board Member of the Open Society Institute Assistance Foundation. Mr. Sobirzoda holds Diplom in International Economic Relations from the Institute of Business and Service (2003), Master of Science in Development Economics from the University of Manchester (United Kingdom, 2005), and Master of Arts in International Affairs (International Development Studies) from Ohio University (United States of America, 2008). He has done academic research in Sustainable Human Development (2008) and Work and Inequality in a Global Economy (2009) at the Central European University in Budapest, Hungary. Currently, he is also working on his PhD dissertation on microfinance and economics of poverty at the Tajik National University. He has a broad experience in different development agencies such as Red Crescent Society of Tajikistan, United Nations Children's Fund, World Bank, United Nations Headquarters – Department of Economic and Social Affairs (New York, USA) and United Nations Development Program.

Sabohat Jumaeva –member of the Board, is a lawyer specialized in Human Rights, criminal law and civil law. She has graduated with honor from Law faculty of State University of the Republic of Tajikistan in 1987. Has more than 15 years experience working in Public Prosecutors office, holds the title of Justice Counselor level 1. Worked as an Advisor of Human Rights and democratization with the Center of OSCE, also as a Coordinator of Projects of UNTOP and UNDP in Tajikistan and as a Head of Legal Department with Commercial Bank. From 2005 Has worked as Coordinator of Human Rights Information and Documentation Center with UNTOP in Tajikistan. From 2008 until know leads this Center as it was registered as NGO. From April 2011 is a member of the Board of Tajik Branch of the Open Society Institute-Assistance Foundation.
